Ananias was a member of the Christian community in Jerusalem. He sold a piece of land and pretended he donated all the revenues to the community. In reality he kept part of it to himself.

Peter saw through the lies and confronted Ananias with them. Before Ananias answered, he fell to the ground and died.

The work is a design for a tapestry in the Sistine Chapel.
