A portrait of St Peter. He was among the first of Christ's disciples and became the first pope.

Only Peter's face and left hand were painted with light colours, making them seemingly come out from the darkness.

In the left hand Peter holds a key, the attribute often used in art to identify him. It is the key to the kingdom in heaven that Jesus gave him.
