Crucifixion
Christ on the cross, from the moment he is nailed to the cross until his death.
In art the crucifixion is shown in various settings. Sometimes a lone Christ is shown, e.g. by Velázquez. But often other figures are present. Mary and John the Evangelist are common, sometimes accompanied by others. Sometimes the two other convicts are shown. Sometimes soldiers pierce Jesus' side with lances.
Usually the scene is set on Golgotha, a hill just outside Jerusalem.
