In Matthew 8 a number of miraculous healings by Christ near the Sea of Galilee are described. One of them concerns the mother-in-law of Peter, who was struck by fever. Christ takes her by the hands and helps her rise. The fever disappears.

The drawing was in the collection of Dutch art collector Frits Lugt. Since his death in 1970 the collection is cared for by the Fondation Custodia, founded by Lugt.
