Govert Flinck 1615 – 1660 St. Paul at his deskoil on canvas (135 × 111 cm) — c. 1633
This work is linked to 2 Thessalonians 1:1 Somewhat tired, an old man sits at his desk. The sword against the wall tells us this must be St. Paul. The former persecutor of Christians is often depicted with that attribute. It is presumed that here he is depicted writing his second letter to the Christian community in Thessaloniki. The painting is signed in the lower left corner with "Rembrandt 163". Experts think it must be made around 1633. Despite the signature, the painting is now often attributed to Govert Flinck. At the time Flinck worked in Rembrandt's workshop. Rate this work of art: |
