Adoration of the Magi (Utrecht)

Dressed in a beautiful robe, Balthasar offers his gift to the newborn child, who sits on his mother Mary's lap. The two other wise men and Joseph look on. The man in the background right may be the commissioner.

Besides the usual symbolism of the gifts (kingdom, divinity and death) Bloemaert here also shows the Resurrection, represented by the pomegranates on the robe.
