In art the word annunciation is usually used for the episode of the angel telling Mary that she will soon bear child. The message is brought to her by the archangel Gabriel. According to Luke, he greeted her with the words "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women".
The angel also told Mary that her cousin Elisabeth was pregnant. Mary soon paid her a visit: the visitation.
