Georges de La Tour 1593 – 1652 Saint Jude Thaddeusoil on canvas (62 × 53 cm) — 1615-1620
This work is linked to Jude 1:1 Jude Thaddeus was one of Jesus' disciples and apostles. He may have been a brother of James the Minor. He is also seen by some as the author of the Epistle of Jude, but that letter may have been written as late as in the 2nd century. Georges de La Tour here shows Jude with his usual attribute: the halberd. Legend has it that Jude was clubbed to death in Perzië. The painter made a similar portrait of the apostle Thomas.
