Marco Basaiti 1470 – 1530 The Calling of James and Johnoil on panel (386 × 268 cm) — 1510 Gallerie dell'Accademia, Venice This work is linked to Mark 1:20 A scene at Lake Tiberias, also known as the Sea of Galilee. The man to the right of Jesus (left for the viewer) is Peter, to the left is Andrew. They have already joined Jesus. Here two more fishermen are called: James and John, who were out fishing with their father Zebedee (in red, to the right). Hence the alternative name Call of the Sons of Zebedee. The Venetian artist Basaiti made this large panel for the altar of the Sant'Andrea della Certosa, a church in Venice. It is widely considered to be his best narrative painting.
