A moving pieta by Bellini. Christ's head rests against Mary's face. She holds his right hand. John looks away, while supporting the pale body.

Christ's left hand rests on a marble parapet with the text HAEC FERE QUUM GEMITUS TURGENTIA LUMINA PROMANT / BELLINI POTERAT FLERE IONNIS OPUS, meaning something like: "When these suffering eyes wrench groans from you, Bellini's picture weeps itself."
