One of Giotto's frescoes from his series on the life and passion of Jesus, in the Arena Chapel in Padua.

Seated on an ass, Jesus enters Jerusalem. People greet him by spreading clothes before him and by waving palm branches.

Jesus' robe used to be completely blue. In order to make the expensive ultramarine paint more brilliant, it was added after the fresco had dried. Therefore it is by now more worn than the colours that are better fastened into the plaster.
