Duccio di Buoninsegna biography

This panel of Duccio's Maestà shows the prophet Isaiah holding a scroll. The text in Latin reads: "ecce virgo concipiet, et pariet filium, et vocabitur nomen ejus Emmanuel". In the KJV this became "Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel".

To the right of this panel Duccio showed how the prophecy came true: The Birth of Christ.
