Two sisters from Bethany. Martha is the more active, with a hands-on attitude: she is the patroness of housewives. Mary is more contemplative, and also the vain one. They had a brother Lazarus.

Mary's vanity is not mentioned in the Bible. It is a well-known subject in art.
