Bertram of Minden biography

When the three wise men do not tell king Herod where he can find the infant Jesus, he orders his men to kill all children under the age of two in Bethlehem.

This panel is one out of six in the Grabow altarpiece that depict scenes from the early days of Jesus. Master Bertram here ingeniously used the golden background to "paint" the king's golden crown and sceptre.
