1548 - 1628
Peter Candid was born as Pieter de Witte in Bruges in 1548. His father was a tapestry weaver. The family moved to Florence when Peter was ten years old. They changed their family name to Candido.
Around 1560 Peter started his apprenticeship, under an unknown master. He then worked as a painter in Florence and Rome. In 1586 he moved to Munich, where he worked at the courts of Bavarian dukes: William V and Maximillian I. For them he made fresco's in several buildings.
In Munich he called himself Peter Candid. He died in 1628.
