The prophet Elijah was a fierce opponent of worshippers of the idol Baal. Contrary to us ordinary mortals, he did not simply die, but "went up by a whirlwind into heaven" in a chariot of fire.

The American singer-songwriter Chi Coltrane was inspired by Elijah and a series of rainy funerals when she wrote her famous song Go Like Elijah: "I want to go like Elijah when I go".
