Goswin van der Weyden 1465 – 1538 Madonna with child and saintsoil on panel (72 × 64 cm) — c. 1508
This panel is attributed to Goswin van der Weyden, a grandson of the great master Rogier. The composition is similar to Hans Memling's Sacra Conversazione (1479). Mary is seated on a throne. On her lap is her son. The saint to the left is Catherine, holding a sword. To the right is Margaret. She is identified by the dragon next to her: legend has it that Satan in the shape of a dragon once swallowed her alive, and that she survived. Rate this work of art: |
