Joseph flees the house when his master Potiphar's wife tries to seduce him. She manages to pull a part of his gown. When Potiphar returns, his wife accuses Joseph of having tried to rape her. She shows the cloth as evidence. The unnamed wife tries to look scared and innocent. Potiphar tells his men to catch Joseph. This is one of Lucas van Leyden's first oil paintings. His technique is still very detailed, as if the panel were an etching. |
