"Aren't you...", the woman seems to say when she recognizes Peter as one of Jesus' followers. "Is he really!", say the two men to the right. There is panic in Peter's eyes as his hands gesture "Who, me? No way!" He thus denies his master. Seghers painted in the style of Caravaggio. The faces, with their lively expressions, are only visible because of the light from the candle. The flame doesn't draw attention because Seghers put the woman's hand in front of it. |
