After their walk three men are having a simple supper in the village of Emmaus. It isn't until one of them blesses the bread that the others recognise him as their deceased spiritual leader. The composition in this canvas is quite similar to Veronese's earlier depiction of the episode. This painting is smaller and there are less people. The girl playing with a dog returns. |
