Ludolf Backhuysen

portrait of Ludolf Backhuysen Dutch painter and calligrapher, born in Emden (Germany). He moved to Amsterdam in 1649 where he found a clerical job in an office. In his spare time he started making drawings of seascapes. Soon he would also make them with oil paint. His talent was obvious, and he became successful and renowned in his days.

The portrait is a self-portrait from c. 1680-1685.
