Jean de Beaumetz

1335 - 1396

French-Flemish painter, who worked at the court of Philip the Bold, duke of Burgundy. Jean was born c. 1335 in Beaumetz-les-Loges.

After c. 1376 he worked in Dijon, the capital of the duchy. Together with members of his workshop he decorated several of the Duke's castles and the Charterhouse (Carthusian monastery) Champmol in Dijon.

He was succeeded by Jean Malouel.
